Introduction, History and Structure

Sobeys was founded in 1907 by John W. Sobey, as a meat delivery business. In 1949, Frank H. Sobey opened the first self-serve supermarket of Sobeys. Now, it has more than 1500 franchised branches all over Canada. The headquarters of the company are in Stellarton, Nova Scotia.

Sobeys is the second largest food retail chain in Canada since late 1990's. Sobeys sales crossed $16 CAD billion dollars in 2012 which is shown in an annual report of Sobeys. It was less than $16 billion CAD in 2011, so people started investing more in Sobeys at that time.

Some Important Characteristics of Sobeys stores:

Sobeys is renowned for its variety of food, different types of departments like flower department, health care department, sea food department et cetera. The employees of the store are also very co-operative. Some other companies also promote their brands at Sobeys.
Parking Area of Sobeys
The parking area of Sobeys is very large with small shelter for carts in the middle of parking area. If anyone wants to use the carts while shopping, there is no need to insert coins in the carts to use them as compared to the other food stores.

Moreover, the store is open for 24 hours. So, one cannot worry about time to buy any food item late night.

Question for all: Do you prefer a store with unlock carts rather than a store in which you have to put coin in the cart to unlock it? Feel free to leave your comments.
